No Glenn was not being true to himself when he did Deep Purple and the other projects. He was doing it for money. Glenn often slagged off Deep Purple whilst in the band and made it quite obvious he'd rather be doing something more soulful. He also slagged off Addiction soon after it came out.
I think it's sad that Glenn really wants to do an album of music he loves and you guys are sticking up for the music industry morons who want to pigeon hole Glenn in the heavy rock category.
I love some of Glenn's rockier moments like on Trapeze and Purple but the fact is another album like Addiction would have me seriously worried that Glenn might never record a decent album again.
Feel was going in the right direction. Glenn believed in that album and it was vastly superior to Addiction. Let Glenn do what he wants. He has gone on record many times saying he'd love to do a Funk/Soul album and not hard rock.
I think the Monsters of Rock tour may have persuaded him there are still a few moronic metal heads out there who might be interested in hearing him scream over loud guitars again.
I'd rather he funked out myself.
