To funk or not to funk...

Hey all,

I have noticed the debate here about Glenn's choice to record another rock
album instead of the awaited funk/soul/jazz album he's been working on
lately.

My humble view is that is not very long since it went years between the times
I heard anything about what he was doing. People had no idea he was alive
or dead. Then his career, or life for that matter, was a mess and he almost
died not so many years ago, remember? With that in mind it is so easy to see
why I appreciate every single chance of hearing his music, be it rock, funk or
whatever. There is always elements of rock and funk in Glenn's music, remember
that too. Very few, if any at all, recording artists have total artistic freedom.
It's not called the music _business_ for no reason.

Don't think you know what to expect just because it's said to be a rock album
coming up. The request from the record company before they recorded Addiction
was a Deep Purple type of album. I can't say that's very obvious when listening to
the end result?! ;) Glenn is in good hands too. Marc Bonilla and Jocke Marsh are
two extremely good musicians so he could definitely be in worse situations. Maybe
the money earned on tis upcoming project will help finance that other album too?

I think Glenn Hughes is a lucky guy. Without a manager or anything yet another
deal has landed in his lap right out of the blue. Very few rock dudes would kill to
be in such a position. Hopefully we'll see him on tour after this album again and
then next time who knows what type of album he'll record.

Just my $0.02...

Lennart

P.S. Hopefully we'll have a message from the man himself soon at the GHN
(about this new situation).
