I agree that these are lackluster performances by a band that was falling apart due to their artistic differences. I believe that Glenn and Richie were very much at odds at this time, and that there was little left to musically inspire Glenn due to Richie's power trips. Unfortunately, bringing in Tommy Bolin wasn't the answer to Deep Purple's problems. The live stuff I've heard from those tours is awful to say the least. Maybe there was a sense of togetherness in the band but the drugs were spacing them out and neither Glenn nor David were vocally tight.
